The People's Bible College, Lukwipa

Pastor Wesley Chiromo, from Lusaka, is a friend of Phil Bailey and has helped Phil with various Covenantlocal church lukwipa.jpg College administration tasks in the capital. He also oversees several churches in the Lukwipa region, the homeland of his wife. Lukwipa is a town in the Eastern Province of Zambia, 40 kms before you come to the Luangwa River on the Great East road going towards Petauke.

Wesley’s vision was to extend his evangelism work in the Lukwipa area by establishing local Pastors for each church plant. As elsewhere, the greatest need is for Biblical training so that the Pastors teach according to the Bible and the true Gospel of Jesus Christ.

wesley chiromo.jpgTo achieve this aim he desired to start a local Bible College teaching in the vernacular language, Nyanja. Through friends from Arden Lea Nurseries in England we have been able to provide the means to build a two classroom block for The People’s Bible College. The photo on the left shows Wesley standing in the plot of land where building commenced mid-way through 2005.

Lukwipa is remote from any major town and most of the materials had to be transported 180 kms by various vehicles from Lusaka. Bricks were made locally on site and local people helped in bringing sand, river sand and water from nearby.

The building gradually took shape during the latter part of 2005 and during the first months of 2006, constructed by a local builder.

It was a joy to see the progress month by month culminating in the completion by the end of July this year. people's bible college.jpgThis was just in time for the Dedication Service, which was held on Sunday 2nd July and attended by Duncan Taylor from Arden Lea and his son in law Alex. The Dedication service was a moving experience with preaching from Wesley and Duncan and some beautiful singing by choirs from both Lusaka and Lukwipa.

Wesley and his wife Rhoda and their five children will be moving to Lukwipa during August in time for the start of Bible classes for local wesley chiromo dedication.jpgPastors on September 18th. A member of one of his churches, a young lady, is also willing to start teaching young children and therefore a pre-school for children aged from 2-5 years will commence. This will be an immediate benefit in the area as the only school close to PBC starts at Grade One. Fellowship groups will also start, various gender and age Bible Study groups will be headed by Wesley and Rhoda. The building will therefore be used in the mornings for the College teaching, early afternoon the Pre-school and late afternoon fellowship/bible study groups.

Please pray for the people of Lukwipa and the work of Wesley and Rhoda as they commence their new life and ministry in this area. (21/08/06)
